Meeting of 2006-01/06
MONSON CEMETERY COMMISSION
FRIDAY, JANUARY 6, 2006

The regular meeting of the Monson Cemetery Commissioners convened at 10:00 a.m.  in the office at 32 Wilbraham Road. In attendance were Albert T. Wilcox, Robert E. Pease, Paul B. Lovell and Gaylin G. Bingle. Julian E. Szarlan was not present.

Mr. Pease made a motion to accept the minutes of the December 2, 2005 meeting. Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion.

OLD BUSINESS:

1.      Transmission – Paul said he stopped in to explain the problem and was told it didn’t sound like a major problem. They will try to repair it quickly so the truck will not be tied up for too long. Paul said he was waiting until after the holidays to get it repaired.

2.      Veteran’s Marker – Paul spoke with the family and they are going to try to order a flat marker. Bob Matheson, the Veteran’s Agent said he would work with them.

3.      Help – The employee working here from the Highway Department on light duty will be here at least until January 13th. He has been able to do the welding on the trailer and has been real helpful to the department.

NEW BUSINESS:

1.      Internet Service – It was discussed on how internet service is needed in the office as all the inter-office work is done via e-mail. Options were discussed as to DSL, Samnet or the local cable company. The Commissioners agreed to have Paul check this out and to receive prices.

2.      Driveway- The driveway between the building and the Cemetery will need to be replaced. Over the years it has sunk due to water underneath it and it is now crumbling badly. Paul purchased two truckloads of gravel from Pete Lloyd to place in back of the building where the trailer is kept to keep it from sinking in the mud. The Highway Department dug this out for us. Paul borrowed Pete Lloyd’s backhoe to backfill this area with the gravel.

3.      New Commissioner – No one has taken any papers out to fill the vacancy on the Cemetery Commission left by Mr. Szarlan’s decision not to run for another term. There are three different positions open on town boards/commissions. One opening exists on the School Committee, one on the Board of Assessors and the one on the Cemetery Commission.

4.       Roof on Building at Hillcrest – Mr. Pease said he would contact Brian Mushenko regarding the snow sliding off of the roof to see he if has any suggestions or is willing to do the work to correct this problem.

5.      Cable – Paul said knowing the weather conditions in advance would be extremely helpful in planning burials and scheduling seasonal workers for the week. He has spoken with Comcast to see about getting cable run to the office as it is free to the town departments. He was told there might just be a small fee for the initial hook-up. The Commissioners agreed for Paul to pursue this as long as there is no monthly fee.

Mr. Pease made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:05 a.m. Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion.

Respectfully Submitted,

Gaylin Bingle
